Bungalows for sale in Uxbridge

Each listing on this page is filed with the board under a bungalow, raised bungalow or bungaloft style, so the daily living space sits on one level or very close to it. Uxbridge is good bungalow territory. The streets that grew out from Brock Street and Toronto Street through the seventies and eighties, on the west side around Quaker Village and off Reach Street, hold brick ranchers and raised bungalows on wide lots, many with the garage tucked under the front bedrooms. Newer adult-lifestyle enclaves on the town's south and east edges were planned around the bungaloft, with the main bedroom down and a guest loft over the garage. Beyond the town limits, the concession roads near Goodwood, Sandford and Zephyr carry ranch bungalows set on acreage with a walk-out at the back. Let Randy and Alexander Miller separate the true single-level houses from the ones with a full staircase hidden in the description.

Where the one-level houses sit

Start with the older town. The blocks between Main Street and the arena, the crescents off Reach Street and the Quaker Village streets west of the brook date from the sixties through the eighties, when the bungalow was the standard family house here, and many have never been added to. Lots are deep enough for a garden and a second garage. Raised bungalows are common on the streets that climb toward Quaker Hill, because the grade gave builders a bright lower floor for free. On the south side, the golf-course enclaves reportedly sold as adult-lifestyle communities, with bungalows and bungalofts on private roads, a clubhouse and a monthly charge for the road and grounds. In the country, a bungalow is often the practical choice on a moraine lot, with the bedrooms upstairs replaced by a finished lower level that opens onto the yard.

Checks that matter on a bungalow

A bungalow from the seventies will usually have had a roof and a furnace replaced, but ask about the electrical, the plumbing under the slab and whether the first-generation windows are still in place. Look at the lower level with a critical eye: a finished basement in a raised bungalow is often the reason a family chose the house, so test for dampness, note the ceiling height and confirm that any lower bedroom has a code-sized egress window. In an adult-lifestyle enclave, read the road agreement and the fee schedule, and ask whether the community restricts rentals or requires an owner to be over a certain age. For a country bungalow, the questions move outside: the well record, the septic bed's location and age, the driveway grade in a snowy winter and whether the lot sits under moraine or Greenbelt rules that limit an addition. Questions people ask about Bungalows for sale in Uxbridge

Are Uxbridge bungalows mostly in town or in the countryside?

Both, in different forms. The town's seventies and eighties streets supply the classic brick bungalow and raised bungalow on a municipal lot, and the newer enclaves near the golf courses supply bungalofts. The countryside supplies ranchers on acreage with wells and septic systems, usually with a lower level that walks out to the yard because of the moraine's slopes.

How does a bungaloft differ from a raised bungalow?

A raised bungalow sets the main floor a half storey above grade so the lower level gets full windows, which is common on Uxbridge's sloping streets. A bungaloft keeps the main bedroom and kitchen on the ground floor and adds a partial upper floor, often a guest room or den open to the living room below. Both count on this page.

Do adult-lifestyle bungalow communities in Uxbridge have rules?

Reportedly yes. The enclaves on the town's edges were developed for buyers past the family years, and some carry age minimums, private road agreements and monthly charges for snow clearing and grounds, all written into the purchase documents. Ask for those papers early. Randy or Alexander can explain how the charge differs from a condominium fee.
