Reading a Whitby townhouse listing before you compare towns
Three items on the listing decide whether a Whitby townhouse is the bargain it looks like beside an Ajax or Oshawa row. First, the ownership type: freehold puts the lot and the walls in your name, condominium puts the exterior under a corporation that bills you monthly, and a common-element or POTL arrangement sits in between with a smaller charge covering a shared lane or guest spaces. Second, the parking: many Whitby rows built after 2005 offer one garage bay and one driveway spot, and a builder's garage is sometimes too narrow for a full-size vehicle, so measure it. Third, the lot: a back-to-back town in Port Whitby has no rear yard at all, while a 1990s Williamsburg row may have a fenced yard deep enough for a shed. Once you know those three, the town-to-town comparison is simpler, and the Millers can pull up recent townhouse sales for signed-in members to show where each row's asking price sits.
