O'Neill detached homes for sale
Detached houses in O'Neill fall into two families. West of Mary Street North and along Simcoe, Masson, Alexandra and Hillcroft streets are the pre-war houses: brick, two or two-and-a-half storeys, front porches, original trim and staircases, deep lots with detached garages, often 100 feet or more. East toward Ritson Road North the houses are smaller and younger, storey-and-a-half designs from the 1940s, brick bungalows from the 1950s and 1960s and the occasional side-split, on 40 to 50 foot lots with single driveways. Central Park Boulevard North and the streets near the golf club carry larger mid-century houses. What to check: wiring type and whether it has been fully replaced, plaster and insulation levels, foundation moisture on stone or early block basements, roof structure on the older houses, any history of conversion to multiple units and whether those units are legal, and tree roots in the drains. Heritage designation applies to some properties along Simcoe Street North and can limit exterior changes.

Questions people ask about O'Neill
Which O'Neill streets have the grandest houses?
Simcoe Street North between the hospital and Rossland Road, along with Masson Street, Alexandra Street and the blocks around the golf club, hold the largest pre-war and mid-century houses on the deepest lots. The wartime and post-war streets east of Mary Street North are more modest, with smaller houses on tighter lots and more consistent styling.
Can I convert an O'Neill house into a duplex?
Often yes. Many of the larger houses already contain two or three units, and Oshawa's zoning allows additional dwelling units in detached houses subject to building code, parking and fire separation requirements. Confirm that any existing units were permitted, because unregistered apartments are common in this area and can be costly to bring into compliance.
Do old O'Neill houses have basements I can use?
Pre-1940 houses usually have low, damp basements with stone or early block foundations that were built for storage and a furnace, not living space. Post-war houses have full-height poured or block basements. Underpinning, waterproofing and a proper sump can turn an old basement into a usable one, but price that work rather than assuming it.
